Cabot Citrus Farms - Karoo is a complete reimagining of the former World Woods Golf Club property, transformed into a championship-caliber course that feels utterly unlike anything else in Florida. Designed by Kyle Franz, Mike Nuzzo, and Thomas Fazio, this 7,562-yard par-72 course sits on 1,200 acres of rolling terrain with dramatic elevation changes, sandy soil, and towering sand pines mixed with moss-covered oaks. The course derives its name from the call of sandhill cranes that roam the property, their rolling karoo trumpet sound echoing across wide fairways and split routing options that reward creative shot-making.
Karoo's design philosophy centers on rugged aesthetics and bold green contours. Vast waste bunkers and sandy blow-outs replace traditional manicured rough, while multiple routing options on nearly every hole allow golfers to choose their own path to the pin. The signature split fairway on the opening hole sets the tone: miss left into waste areas or right into narrower confines—either way demands strategic thinking. The par-3 third hole plays anywhere from 125 to 292 yards depending on tee selection, with a steeply sloped green that could represent a four-club difference between front and back pins.
This is a walking-designed course that demands engagement with the landscape. From November through February, Karoo transitions to walking-only play (with exceptions for medical carts), honoring the traditional, immersive golf experience. During cart season, the course maintains its challenge through unraked bunkers with unpredictable lies and greens that reward precision long and short. The entire property features a complimentary shuttle service connecting cottages, courses, and dining outlets, making it easy for groups to move about. Cabot's state-of-the-art practice facility includes a TrackMan range and 18-hole putting course, perfect for warming up or settling post-round matches under the lights.
