Fota Island Resort is a player's paradise nestled within a stunning 780-acre estate in East Cork, just 20 minutes from Cork Airport and 10 miles east of Cork City. The flagship Deerpark course stretches across rolling parkland framed by mature oak woodlands with vistas across Cork Harbour, creating an almost Old World aesthetic despite opening only in 1993. Originally designed by Ryder Cup legend Christy O'Connor Jr. and former British Amateur Champion Peter McEvoy, the course was substantially upgraded to European Tour standards by Jeff Howes in 1998-99, earning it three-time hosting honors for the Irish Open (2001, 2002, and 2014). The Deerpark impresses with receptive greens, strategic bunkering, and water hazards that come into play on several holes, particularly around the treacherous back nine. The signature 18th—a par-5 finishing hole with a peninsula green protected on three sides by water—remains one of Ireland's most iconic closing holes. Golfers consistently praise the course's conditioning, saying the greens rival the finest in southwest Ireland. Beyond the original Deerpark, the resort offers two additional championship configurations (Belvelly Par 72 and Barryscourt Par 73) created by mixing the original nine holes with nine newer Jeff Howes-designed holes added in 2007, giving groups tremendous variety across a stay.
