A Jack Nicklaus design unveiled in 1981, Turtle Point was the second layout to debut at the Kiawah Island Golf Resort. Featuring three oceanfront holes, this characteristic Jack Nicklaus design features ample fairways, approachable greens, and strategically placed lagoons that put a premium on accuracy and a carefully thought-out approach to each shot. In 2016, Jack Nicklaus led the renovation of Turtle Point, regrassing the course with Paspalum, reconstructing all of the bunkers, and improving the irrigation efficiency. This Kiawah Island resort course now features increased shot variety and requires strategic play with several hidden water hazards. The layout winds through maritime forest and coastal marshes before opening up to the dramatic oceanside finale. Turtle Point epitomizes the Golden Bear's mantra to "make the player use his mind ahead of his muscles–to control his emotions sufficiently to really think through his options before drawing a club from his bag." The stretch of holes from 14-16 really elevate this score as the three holes are as close to the beach as you'll ever get. The way the course opens into that area is sublime.
