Mossy Oak Golf Club

Minimalist links-style golf carved from the Mississippi Black Prairie where nature and design converge in perfect harmony.

About the Course

Mossy Oak Golf Club is a revolutionary links-style course that opened in 2016 as Gil Hanse's first design in the United States following his work on the Olympic golf course in Rio. Built on 180 acres of what was once the Knob Hill Dairy Farm, the course features fewer than 20 trees and over 100 bunkers, showcasing a minimalist philosophy that emphasizes the natural beauty of the rolling Mississippi Black Prairie terrain. The layout routes through native grasses and elevation changes with an uncommonly close tee-to-green design, making it exceptionally walkable and intimate despite the wide-open feeling.

What sets Mossy Oak apart is its commitment to harmony with nature and habitat preservation. Every design element was carefully considered to heighten awareness of the outdoors, from the positioning of elevated greens to the strategic placement of native grasses that penalize wayward shots. The course features significant elevation changes, spectacular risk-reward bunkering, and engaging hole designs that require constant strategic thinking. Par threes range from 145 to 250 yards, par fours from 299 to 476 yards, and par fives from 523 to 622 yards, ensuring variety and playability for all skill levels.

The experience at Mossy Oak goes beyond golf. The property includes five luxurious cottages overlooking the 10th and 18th holes, allowing visitors to immerse themselves in the natural setting. Being just across the street from its sister course, Old Waverly (one of the Southeast's top private clubs), West Point has become one of the region's premier golf destinations. The course is designed for walking with a caddie, though carts are available. Sustainability is woven throughout the property, with reclaimed water irrigation, organic slow-release fertilizers, and native areas left unmaintained.

Why It's Great for Groups
  • Authentic links-style experience without the coastal setting—Gil Hanse's minimalist design feels like it was always meant to be there, with rolling terrain and native grasses creating genuine strategic golf
  • Exceptional on-property accommodations in spacious four-bedroom cottages with flat-screen TVs and modern amenities, perfect for group golf trips with direct course access
  • Sister course Old Waverly across the street creates a premier 36-hole destination where you can experience two completely different styles of golf within minutes of each other
  • Best experienced walking with tee boxes placed adjacent to greens, creating an intimate and connected experience with nature that few modern courses offer
  • Home to Mississippi State University's golf practice facility and recognized as both Golf Digest's #3 Best New Course in 2017 and a Golfweek Top 100 Modern Course

Best Time to Visit
Spring (April through June) and fall (mid-September through mid-November) offer ideal golf conditions with temperate weather and beautiful natural surroundings. The course is best experienced walking, making these cooler seasons particularly enjoyable. Summer months in Mississippi are hot and humid, making cart play more necessary and the walking experience less comfortable. Winter rates are significantly lower (typically half the peak season cost), making it an economical option despite less ideal weather.
