Omni Barton Creek Resort & Spa - Fazio Canyons Course

Tom Fazio's masterpiece carved through Texas Hill Country—dramatic elevation changes, pristine conditions, and one of the finest finishing holes in golf.

About the Course

Opened in 1999, Fazio Canyons represents the crown jewel of Barton Creek's four-course collection and the highest-rated layout among them. Set two miles from the main resort hub, this 7,153-yard par-72 sits nestled in rolling Texas Hill Country and feels refreshingly secluded despite its proximity to Austin. The course unfolds through towering Red Oak and Sycamore trees, with Short Springs Branch—a pristine limestone-bed creek—weaving throughout the property, creating gallery-worthy vistas from nearly every tee.

What makes Fazio Canyons unforgettable is the dramatic topography. The front nine rolls gently, lulling you into a false sense of security. The back nine cranks up the stakes with three sharply elevated tees that deliver genuine heart-racing moments. Risk-reward opportunities present themselves throughout, demanding precision and strategic decision-making from every golfer. The undulating greens are massive and challenge even the best putters—they read sneaky tough and hold approach shots beautifully.

The 561-yard par-5 finishing hole stands as one of the finest closing holes in Texas golf, tumbling dramatically downhill in a double dogleg before ascending back up to a green etched into the hillside. It's the kind of closer that golfers replay in their minds for years.

Course play requires a stay at the Omni Barton Creek Resort, ensuring an intimate, members-club atmosphere. The Canyons Clubhouse features a wraparound porch with generous Hill Country views, craft beverages on tap, and seasonal clubhouse fare. An exceptional practice facility with extensive short-game area and Golf Channel Academy sits ready for pre-round tune-ups.

Why It's Great for Groups
  • One of Tom Fazio's greatest Texas designs and formerly ranked in Golf Digest's America's 100 Greatest Public Courses
  • Dramatic elevation changes and multiple uphill-downhill shots create an exhilarating, varied challenge that separates it from flatter courses
  • Spectacular finishing hole—a 561-yard par-5 that cascades downhill in a double dogleg, widely considered among the best in Texas
  • Secluded feel with no parallel fairways or homes crowding the corridors; each hole feels like a private, solitary experience
  • Perfect base for a multi-course Hill Country golf trip—access to three additional championship courses (Fazio Foothills, Coore-Crenshaw, Palmer Lakeside) at the resort

Best Time to Visit
October through November and March through April offer ideal conditions—mild temperatures (65-75°F), lower humidity, and lush green fairways post-monsoon. Texas Hill Country is green and vibrant during spring wildflower season (March-May). Avoid August-September for extreme heat and occasional afternoon thunderstorms. With 300+ days of sunshine annually, golf is playable year-round, though winter (December-February) can be unpredictable with occasional ice/cold fronts. Spring and fall provide the most consistent, enjoyable playing conditions and lowest UV exposure.
