Ozarks National

A masterpiece routed along ridgetops with panoramic Ozark views—where Coore & Crenshaw's pure architectural rigor meets raw natural beauty.

About the Course

Ozarks National stands as Missouri's only Coore & Crenshaw design and immediately announces itself as something special. Perched along the ridgelines of the Missouri Ozarks, this 7,036-yard championship course delivers panoramic vistas for miles—a stark contrast to the manicured beauty of its Big Cedar Lodge siblings. The layout is bold and unforgiving: fairways are generous but the exposed ridge-top setting means ruthless wind, firm turf that releases unpredictably, and hazards that punish imprecision. Signature features include the iconic 400-foot wooden beam and plank bridge on the 13th hole, which stands 60 feet above a flowing creek and connects tee to fairway—a stunning architectural highlight that feels like a rite of passage. The front nine plays as a more scoreable 3-3-3 par layout, but the back nine is a gauntlet of demanding par fours and strategic par fives that will test avid players. What makes Ozarks National exceptional for groups is its commitment to thoughtful design without gimmicks; this is golf in its purest form, rewarding shot-shaping, course management, and strategic thinking. The half-par holes are delightful opportunities, while the elevated greens and strategic bunkering demand respect. For golfers who appreciate nuance and don't need every hole to shout at them, this course whispers back with every round.

Why It's Great for Groups
  • Coore & Crenshaw masterpiece—the only course by these legendary architects in Missouri, ranked 155th in Golf Digest's 100 Greatest Public Courses since 2021
  • Spectacular natural setting with ridge-top routing delivering panoramic Ozark views and exposure to dramatic wind that plays differently each day
  • Strategic, minimalist design that rewards thoughtful play—wide fairways but firm conditions that make every tee shot matter, with green complexes that are among the most severe at Big Cedar
  • Forecaddies available March through November (highly recommended) to help navigate blind shots and unpredictable turf conditions that can be humbling without local knowledge
  • Perfect complement to Big Cedar's portfolio—pairs well with Payne's Valley for an ideal multi-course group itinerary, with championship-level conditioning and excellent facilities

Best Time to Visit
April through October, with late spring (May-June) and early fall (September-October) offering ideal conditions: firm fairways, consistent wind patterns, and good weather. Avoid January-February when Zoysia fairways are dormant and yellow. The course is closed for aeration March 26-27 with recovery through April 5, and September 8-10 with recovery through September 20. July is hot; wind is a constant factor that actually makes the course more interesting as conditions shift daily.
