Powerscourt Golf Club - East Course

A world-class parkland championship course set in a 1,000-acre historic estate with breathtaking Wicklow Mountain views and lightning-fast greens.

About the Course

Nestled in the foothills of the Wicklow Mountains and set within one of Europe's finest estates, Powerscourt East Course is a mature championship layout that feels timeless despite opening in 1996. Designed by Walker Cup Captain Peter McEvoy, the course brilliantly follows the natural contours of the historic landscape, weaving through ancient oaks and beech trees that frame every hole. The signature 16th—a stunning par 3 played over water—exemplifies the course's ability to create memorable moments where the golf becomes secondary to the sheer beauty of the surroundings. Expect impeccably maintained fairways, lightning-fast tiered greens, and strategic bunkering that rewards precision without punishing adventure. The East offers a traditional mix of four par 3s, four par 5s, and 10 par 4s, with three par 3s playing downhill and closing holes (16-18) that deliver pure theater. From the clubhouse, views sweep across the estate toward Sugar Loaf Mountain and the Irish Sea beyond, creating a setting that feels worlds away from Dublin—yet it's only 30 minutes south of the city.

Why It's Great for Groups
  • Two championship courses on one property (36 holes) ensure unlimited variety and replay value for your group
  • Historic, walkable 1,000-acre estate setting with mature trees, pristine gardens, and Ireland's highest waterfall nearby—perfect for non-golfers in your party
  • On-property luxury hotel (Powerscourt Hotel Autograph Collection) with spa, fine dining, and pool creates an all-in-one resort experience
  • Tournament pedigree: hosted the 1998 Irish PGA (won by Padraig Harrington in a playoff) and 2001 Irish Seniors Open
  • Generally walkable terrain with manageable inclines and available caddies on request, making it perfect for groups of mixed abilities

Best Time to Visit
May through September offers the best combination of weather and course conditions. July and August are warmest with most sunshine, though crowds peak then. Spring (April-May) and early autumn (September) provide excellent conditions with fewer players and spectacular estate gardens in bloom. Winter rates apply November-March with lower prices but expect wind, rain, and occasional frost delays—bring proper rain gear. Book tee times well in advance, especially for weekends and summer.
