Set among extensive pine forests and undulating dunes, with spectacular views over the Atlantic and the Berlengas Islands beyond, the 18-hole golf course was designed by the renowned American golf architect Cabell B. Robinson and was inaugurated on 14th June 1997. The course is a mixture of seaside links and parkland holes with a par of 73, offering the golfer a unique experience. Rather like the excellent layout at Oitavos just down the Portuguese coast, Praia D'El Rey mixes great holes cut through lush vegetation with a number of holes that run along the coastline and encompass sand dunes and links-style challenges whilst at the same time providing amazing views of the Atlantic Ocean and the nearby Berlenga Islands. The front nine weaves through fragrant pine forests with residential properties, while the back nine transforms into pure coastal links golf with dramatic ocean vistas dominating holes 12-15. Deep bunkers, sloping greens and sandy dunes contrast sharply with the lush fairways, making it the complete golfing challenge. Located just under an hour north of Lisbon, this is golf that rewards precision while punishing carelessness, with Atlantic winds adding another strategic layer to the challenge.
