Streamsong Resort - Black Course

Golf Digest Top 100 Public·#38

A bold, uncompromising inland links masterpiece with the largest greens in America and endless playing options that rewards creativity.

About the Course

Situated on a former phosphate mining site in central Florida, Streamsong's Black Course is an unconventional 73-par masterpiece designed by Gil Hanse and Jim Wagner. Opened in 2017 and named Golf Digest's Best New Public Course, the Black stands a mile south of the resort's Red and Blue courses with its own contemporary clubhouse and distinct personality. The course transforms dramatic spoil mounds and quarried terrain into an inland links experience featuring the nation's largest greens—with massive undulating putting surfaces covering eleven acres. What makes Black special is its commitment to shot-making freedom: expansive fairways welcome aggressive play, while approach shots demand precision and strategy thanks to creative green complexes with dual putting surfaces, punchbowl greens, and constantly shifting contours. The course plays as a polarizing design—some embrace its bold, theatrical nature with oversized bunkers and dramatic elevation changes reminiscent of Australia's Sandbelt, while others find its playfulness more akin to golf as art form than traditional championship golf. Walking with caddies is encouraged and highly rewarding given the massive scale of the property and the knowledge needed to navigate those famous green complexes.

Why It's Great for Groups
  • The Black Course features the largest green complexes in the entire United States by square footage, creating an entirely unique challenge with massive undulating surfaces that reward creative approach shots and demanding putting precision
  • Gil Hanse's design offers unmatched playing variety—from the iconic punchbowl 9th hole with its windmill target to drivable par-4s and reachable par-5s, giving golfers multiple options for every approach
  • Located a mile away from the Red and Blue courses, it feels like a separate destination with its own modern clubhouse, premium dining (Bone Valley Tavern), and The Gauntlet practice course—perfect for a group wanting variety throughout a multi-day stay
  • The property's dramatic sand dunes, pristine lakes, and wind-swept vistas create a stunning backdrop unlike any other Florida course, evoking links golf in a landlocked setting
  • Ideal for group trips with three distinct courses on property (Red, Blue, Black), excellent caddie programs, multiple practice areas, nine onsite restaurants, and luxury accommodations including exclusive group bunkers designed specifically for 8-10 golfers
