Situated on a former phosphate mining site in central Florida, Streamsong's Black Course is an unconventional 73-par masterpiece designed by Gil Hanse and Jim Wagner. Opened in 2017 and named Golf Digest's Best New Public Course, the Black stands a mile south of the resort's Red and Blue courses with its own contemporary clubhouse and distinct personality. The course transforms dramatic spoil mounds and quarried terrain into an inland links experience featuring the nation's largest greens—with massive undulating putting surfaces covering eleven acres. What makes Black special is its commitment to shot-making freedom: expansive fairways welcome aggressive play, while approach shots demand precision and strategy thanks to creative green complexes with dual putting surfaces, punchbowl greens, and constantly shifting contours. The course plays as a polarizing design—some embrace its bold, theatrical nature with oversized bunkers and dramatic elevation changes reminiscent of Australia's Sandbelt, while others find its playfulness more akin to golf as art form than traditional championship golf. Walking with caddies is encouraged and highly rewarding given the massive scale of the property and the knowledge needed to navigate those famous green complexes.
