The Links at Bodega Harbour

A dramatic Scottish-style links where every hole commands Pacific Ocean views and the final three holes will steal your breath and your scorecard.

About the Course

Perched 117 feet above the Pacific on California's Sonoma Coast, The Links at Bodega Harbour is an underrated gem that delivers the kind of golf-vacation magic groups dream about. Designed by Robert Trent Jones Jr., the course opened with nine holes in 1978 and was completed in 1987, then substantially reimagined in 2008 when 96 bunkers were reconstructed and all greens were replanted with bentgrass. What makes this place special isn't just the routing—though fairways roll through native coastal rough with nearly 100 strategically placed bunkers—it's the sheer theater of the setting. You're playing a par-70 that maxes out at just over 6,280 yards, but elevation changes, firm conditions, and relentless wind make it play much harder. The front nine features carefully positioned pot bunkers and multi-tiered greens, while holes 16-18—"The Pit" as locals call it—unfold right at the ocean's edge and represent some of the most thrilling golf you'll play anywhere. The course mandates walking the short par-4 16th and long par-3 17th due to coastal protection regulations, adding authenticity to the experience. Groups will find this a memorable gathering spot where camaraderie mixes with genuine challenge, stunning vistas, and the kind of coastal beauty that lingers long after the final putt.

Why It's Great for Groups
  • Pacific Ocean views from every single hole create an unmatched visual experience that makes even mediocre shots feel cinematic
  • The finishing three holes (16-18) are genuinely thrilling, featuring forced walks through environmentally sensitive marshland and a dramatic ocean-backdrop finishing hole
  • Underrated value compared to nearby Pebble Beach and other premium California courses, offering championship-caliber experience at accessible rates
  • Mandatory walking on holes 16-17 provides authentic links golf immersion and protects sensitive coastal habitats, creating a unique regulatory twist
  • On-site Bluewater Bistro restaurant with ocean views provides excellent post-round dining without needing to leave the property

Best Time to Visit
May through October offers the most reliable weather and clearest ocean views, though marine layer fog is common and can roll in quickly year-round. September-October is peak season for group golf trips when conditions are ideal. December through February brings whale-migration season (visible from the course), adding bonus wildlife viewing. Avoid November for reliability, and note that afternoon winds intensify significantly—play early morning tee times when conditions are calmest and visibility is best.
